My paintings are mental and physical landscapes that translate into contemporary statements of line and space. Some paintings are taken from tree and flower observations. These expressions resemble calligraphy messages. Lines twist into odd shapes, they beckon, splinter, break and then turn suddenly. They are universal messages, and yet while they do not answer obvious questions, they provide the freedom to see the world in a different way.

Newer work involves grids and squares, and the painted line evolves into boxes, quirky renderings that show these entrapments, or allegories of the urban setting. I am painting ”place”, where oftentimes, I feel the contemporary artist has become nebulous and marginalized. Paintings show a crossing out and a restating of line. They are psychological experiences of my personal journey into human interaction and struggle. These works are contemporary art statements about the “present” and the act of making painting work. They are honest and lengthy investigations into why I paint.

Sculptural assemblages are works that go outside the traditional frame. These pieces are playful renditions and experimentations that form “shaped whimsies. ”Colorful displays of wood remnants fit like lost puzzle pieces that have finally found their home. Making sculpture adds dimension to my expressions, ideas, and awaken my artist sensibilities. Some sculptures lend themselves to immediate thoughts of simplicity and minimalism. These works exhibit bits and pieces of pop culture in combination with my present living environment.
